My partner - Erik Swiemler - over at Corinthian Films is booking up fast - reserving slots for a special promotion that he can't offer too much longer ... If he did offer to this much work for this little money for too much longer - - he'd be out of his apartment sleeping on the streets ... Lucky for you - I have a direct line to Erik's office and have persuaded him to extend his 3D Logo Animation offer for another week!

Have a LOOK at this! (* I'm simply blown away by his work!)
http://blog.pooririshman.com/promotions/corinthian-films-filling-slots-fast.html

Send an email to andy@pooririshman.com to reserve a spot on his workbench now!

My friend - and entrepreneur - Erik Swiemler created this in almost no time - the guy is a genius at digital animation! We placed this :15 second spot on four radio station websites where I have gotten incredible feedback from people who watched the promotional video.

MY QUESTION TO YOU - - Would you or your clients like your own logo turned into a 3D animation, with audio, in High Definition video?

The offer is as follows -
+ 3D logo animation, professionally edited 30 second digital animation
+ highlight your product or service
+ provide a strong call to action
+ complete copy rights to use your video any way you want
+ professional integration into your existing website
+ rendered in HD Quality
+ Five DVD copies of your video for distribution to TV Stations
+ creation of a YouTube Account for your professional use
+ positioning of your high quality video on YouTube based on your set of targeted keywords
+ distribution of your digital video to over 25 other video sharing websites

Your Cost? Well - like I said - Erik is filling up the reserved slots he set aside for this promotion - but he tells me that a few 'open seats' are still available. Because you are a friend of Poor Irishman Internet Marketing, Erik has offered a special rate of just $250 to complete all this massive video-marketing effort!

Send an email to andy@pooririshman.com to reserve a spot on his workbench now!

Erik runs a company called Corinthian Films and is just fresh out of the gate - he's getting the ball rolling. But some of the amazing work he's already completed include videos for TopFlite golf balls and FedEx shipping! I'd like to see him succeed even more by serving your company. Are you interested in a branding video that rocks your customer's world?

Let me know - Erik's time is very limited - Send an email to andy@pooririshman.com to reserve a spot on his workbench now!

Thanks, Andrew

TheWriterWorks.com, LLC.: SEE MARCH 1ST FEATURED GUEST BLOG POST NOW AT WWW.iSALESMAN.COM HOMEPAGE! - "Every Sales Pro A Small Business Owner!"

Every Sales Pro, a Small Business Owner…

1st March 2010 by Hal Alpiar

Big business muckity-mucks often underestimate the value of their salespeople. Small Business owners typically think they can handle sales themselves. Both are wrong. Neither understands that selling is its own business!

If you sell for a living, and haven’t considered yourself a small business owner, you are just as mistaken.

Regardless of what others may think, when you get up in the morning and head off to your pipeline appointments, you are viewed and thought of by customers and prospects AS the business you represent. You ARE the company in their eyes. And that applies equally to selling a one-man-band or the services of a mega-multi-national corporation.

It’s easy to lose track of your SELF in the process of representing others and you must fight this “mind-drift” if you are to survive and thrive in today’s marketplace. Start by pinching yourself before every encounter, by taking a deep breath and remembering that you’re in business for your SELF.

Of course if you’re a true professional, or aspire to be, you already know you can only sell your SELF by listening hard, by putting your SELF in the prospect’s shoes, by focusing on benefits, and by being 100% honest 100% of the time — “To your own SELF be true” if you like slogans..

Keep careful records. Do the paperwork and data entry with vigor because every piece of paper or computer entry related to every sales call is a piece of bridge that will bring the business you run for your SELF a little closer to the financial success and goal achievement rewards waiting for you.

Constantly innovate. Rebuild, revise, redirect, re-examine, re-explore, re-visit, re-think. Start with the attitude that every thing you do every day can be done better, more efficiently, more effectively, more productively. CHUNK IT UP! Don’t overwhelm your SELF with too much at once. Start with top priorities of what can be the most immediately beneficial.

Constantly add value to the products and services you represent. It doesn’t mean you have to go “boss-begging” or re-inventing your wares. And it doesn’t have to be expensive.

Good small business owners are also good at managing their finances, especially cashflow. I know one industrial rep that passes out free online flower arrangement and iTune credits to customers for their families. Another makes charitable donations in the customer’s name.

And constantly promote your small business. Really top sales pros I know have their own websites and participate heavily in social networking. It pays. It pays back many times over to do it, to keep it active, to include it on your business card and in your spiel. An educational site related to what you’re doing becomes a value-added situation in and of itself.

Whatever you sell, make it a daily habit to inventory and adjust your SELF because YOU are your own small business!

CONNECTICUT GREEN LODGING CERTIFICATION . . .

February 25th, 2010... We are in our final phase of it becoming official! We have completed all of the minimum requirements, and then some.

In our latest meeting, we reviewed the programs we have in place, and talked about further improvements we can make.

Looking forward to Spring, Brandon Scimeca, Food & Beverage Director and Wedding Coordinator, plans to use the composting material we’ve been building up all winter to make a raised herb garden -so when you see “freshly picked rosemary” on the Morgan’s dining menu, you will know exactly what that means, and you can’t get any fresher than that!

All of the Chefs are excited about that, and Brandon certainly plans to expand the bed in the future to include vegetables as well.

We are also excited about the introduction of our new Guestroom Amenities from EcoFresh. Both the product itself and the container it comes in is biodegradable.

This is a brand new concept that just became available, and we are proud to be putting these earth friendly items in our Guestrooms! All of our cleaning supplies also have the “Green Seal” of approval as well.

Let me tell you, it feels so GOOD being GREEN! Stay tuned as we institute more “Going Green” items at the Interlaken – and look for the official logo from the State of Connecticut on our website to be posted next month!

TheWriterWorks.com, LLC.: NO BULL!!! -- “TWITTER Doesn’t Work for My Business!”

by Hal Alpiar

     If TWITTER “doesn’t work”

     for your business,

     maybe you don’t either!

With cha-ching, cha-ching becoming a sound of the past, many owners have resigned themselves to “try anything” to lift their businesses up out of the muck, get things back on track, make more sales, bring in more customers, pay the bills, and put some money in the bank again.

A lot of “old-timers” are even giving social media a try. They’re baffled, but are willing to “give it a shot!” They locate www.Twitter.com, fill in the blanks, set up an account, then put up one feeble 140-character post every week or so telling the world how great their business is.

They wait. No Twitter-types break down the doors.

They walk off shaking their heads and vowing never to return. “TWITTER doesn’t work,” they tell people. ”It didn’t get me any business, and besides, what do I care if somebody in Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Honolulu, or Kalamazoo hears about my little local service business in Pleasantville?”

[Pssst! What works for your business will only work for
your business if you make it work for your business.]

You wouldn’t run (and pay for) one ad or commercial and think that’s going to produce droves of visitors. Why would a few Twitter “Tweets” (which of course you’d not pay for) do the trick? And, by the way, why would anyone — even someone who puts posts on Twitter a few times a day — think that telling Twitterland how great a business is, will send the masses stampeding to their doorstep?

[Pssst! You can only make something work for your business
if you work for your business. It's called "walk the talk."]

TWITTER can work wonders for any business that’s willing to put in the effort to make it work. Making the absolute most of 140 characters takes considerable skill; you can’t breeze in and wing it like a car salesman. It takes brains, organization skills and marketing savvy. A psych degree helps.

Are the dynamics any different for FaceBook, LinkedIn, or any other social media networks? No. The closer you study these sites and see what makes them click, so to speak, the better your odds for making them be productive for your business. And you can’t beat the price, so the learning curve trade-off is a worthy investment of time and effort.

Finally, the lame excuse for avoiding social media because it’s worldwide when they only service local customers? Today’s world has shrunk from a basketball to a marble in terms of instantaneous multi-directional communication. Through social media like Twitter and FaceBook and others we suddenly have “friends” we can be in regular daily contact with from our laptop on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, to Greg in Canada, and Pamela in Australia, and Doyle in Dallas, and Jonena in San Diego, and Victoria in Thailand.

Do you think any of the millions who are exposed to online messages, might have a friend or relative in Brooklyn (or Pleasantville)? Do you think they might refer to one another the same ways you do? So why not be global, even if you are a little local service business. Hey, you really never do know where business can come from. It might even come from TWITTER... NO BULL!!!

TBD Consulting, Inc.: Poll: What Leadership Skills will lead to Success in 2010/2011?

hosted a small poll on LinkedIn this week. The most enlightening thing for me was that 100% of the people over 55 years old believe that setting stretch goals is the most important leadership skill for success in the coming two years while 100% of young people 18-24 consider leading by example to be the most important leadership skill.

This was a small, statistically insignificant study, but it rings true with what I’m hearing from my clients and believe that it might be a wake-up call to the disconnect between the thinking of senior management and the younger workforce entering our companies today. Just as we need to change our training to meet the needs of the X and Y Generations, we need to give serious thought to how we should be leading them in the coming years. After all, they are the leaders of the future!
What Leadership Skills Will Lead to Success in 2010/2011?Overall results:
o Acting on honest feedback - 16%
o Being tough but compassionate – 6%
o Encouraging open dialog – 23%
o Leading by example - 43%
o Setting stretch goals – 19%

Company Size: 1001-5000
Industries: Professional Training & Coaching, Computer Software, Hospital & Health Care
Banking

Below are comments left by poll participants:

Warrick: It’s always more effective by Walk the Talk and Talk the Walk!
Fadi: people mostly produce their best when under extreme pressure
Simon: Set the standard yourself, and others will aim to achieve above and beyond that.
Greg; With the new workforce (Gen X, Y, Z) I suspect that acting on honest feedback will move to the front (collaborative management)
Susan: Feedback may be honest but it takes a wise person to surface lots of honest feedback and induce evolved goals and actions. Thus: lead by example. We could use more stellar leadership examples.
Rohit: Acting on honest feedback would most definitely make a difference in the future. Action is the keyword there. A leader needs to listen to both sides of the story and act on it. He may not be better than his juniors at the workplace but he should know what his juniors want from him and what is feasible. He should be a good listener.
Hubert: Treat people fairly, invest in them and they will invest in you. Since this is not one of the options, I will cast my vote for a mix of Leading by example while knowing how to care for people
Blerim: leading by examples is the most effective way to assure the continuity of success
Rahul: "Your actions scream so loudly in my ears that I can barely listen to what you say..." It will appeal more to my team-member if I am in the office at 7 and I ask him to be there at 7:30. It will be a different story if I call him from a beach and ask him to reach at 8.
Bill Your answers tell me that you have different definitions of success. For me, my current top priority is to (re-)engage the team (which is arguably the #1 problem throughout industry following a year of belt-tightening), so I have to show their voices matter. Hence #1 is acting on honest feedback, because a disengaged team will not respond to any of the other 4 actions/traits.

I’d be very interested in hearing your feedback and what you think is the most important leadership skill we need to succeed in 2010 and 2011.

TheWriterWorks.com, LLC.: BUSINESS LESSONS FROM CONSTRUCTION GUYS: "Spread out the tools, then go for donuts!"

BUSINESS LESSONS FROM CONSTRUCTION GUYS
by Hal Alpiar

“Spread out the tools, then go for donuts!”

No, those eight words are not part of what construction guys can teach to small business owners. In fact, those eight words may account for the building industry employment transience we so often hear about.

No, I’m talking about seven (7) magic words!

Did you ever have a house built? (No not those seven words.) If you’ve ever had a house built and asked something dumb like “Gee, when do you guys put in the main water pipe and wire connections?” (”Oh yeah! Plumbing and electric? No problem; we can run those lines after the house is done; we’ll dig the yard up again and re-cement the concrete foundation we’ll have to break, along with maybe a wall or two, but don’t worry!”)

Did you ever have an addition put on your house? (”Uh, what cough, cough, dust is that, cough, cough, that you didn’t expect? I, cough, cough, don’t see any dust!”) Was your builder marching to his own drummer? (”Duh, what blueprints?”) Odds are the lesson you learned was to never do it again, right?

Well, let me tell you that there are two great lessons to be learned from construction guys that can make a life or death difference for small business owners. One, which comes from such an unlikely pair of experts as a carpenter and a heart surgeon — but which probably started with the carpenter since carpenters have been around a lot longer than heart surgeons:

               MEASURE TWICE. CUT ONCE.

This little 4-word gem of a mantra is the unspoken guideline for many successful small businesses. It’s one way of making sure there’s minimal or no waste of time, money or effort. It’s also expressed as “getting it done right the first time” (or “haste makes waste” as Granny used to say).

It’s the idea that we can actually help ensure maximum productivity with minimum expenses and liabilities. It’s all about making sure there are no rocks under the water we’re diving into. This little piece of reassurance can have untold value and appeal to a small business owner’s wallet and sense of well-being.

And what are the other three words of wisdom?

               CHUNK IT UP!

Whether you’re overwhelmed with a ten mile-long “to-do” list or a project with altogether too many parts, or you’re looking for a value-added way to entice customers by offering them a staggered payment plan, construction guys score again!

They don’t kill their customers with the whole monster total price to pay at once, they charge you what? One third up front (to cover the costs of materials), one-third half-way through the job (to cover salaries), and one-third on completion with satisfaction (to cover profits).

If they only get the first third up front, they’ll never wind up on the short end of a parts/supplies bill. If they get the second third halfway, they can only not make a profit, but will have paid for all materials and labor and put money through their bank. This approach works for nearly all business services and most large ticket item products.

The customer is happy to not commit all their money at once and will prefer a pay-as-you-go option to keep more control on the work that’s booked. 7 words: Measure Twice. Cut Once. Chunk it up!
